What is Zoom?
Zoom is an online meeting platform that will be used by the Santa Rosa City Schools Board of Education during the current social distancing requirements. Those who wish to view the meeting will need an internet connection and device. Zoom is compatible with Windows and Apple computers, along with iPhones, iPads, Chromebooks and Android devices. The device must have working speakers to hear the meeting. A working microphone and/or webcam on the devices is necessary for those who wish to give public comment via the Zoom platform.
-
How can I install Zoom?
If Zoom is not currently installed on a computer or device, when you click on the link to a meeting, Zoom will ask to download a small app to the computer or device. Please “accept” the install to continue to the Zoom meeting. Zoom will only need to install the app the first time a computer or device is used with Zoom. Smartphone users can install the Zoom app prior to a meeting by visiting their app store. “ZOOM Cloud Meetings” is the name of the app.

How can I submit a Public Comment?
All comments are subject to a 2 or 3-minute limit. You may attend the meeting via Zoom, either online on a computer, tablet or smartphone, or by calling into the meeting on a phone.
When the board calls for public comment, either about items not on the agenda or on an agenda item, the meeting moderator will give instructions and invite participants who wish to speak to "raise their hand".- Raise your hand by clicking on the hand at the bottom of the screen.
- Wait for the moderator to call your name and turn on your microphone.
- Make sure to "Unmute" your audio.
- State your first and last name, then your comment.
Each person who raises their hand will be provided up to 3 minutes to share their comment with the board.
Just as in a regular school board meeting at City Hall, if the comment is about something that is NOT on the meeting agenda, it will be heard only during the “Public Comment” part of the meeting. Once that part of the meeting is over, comments will only be taken on agenda items, during the discussion of those items. -
Can I comment about something that is not on the agenda?
Yes, but only during the “Public Comment” part of the meeting. After that part of the meeting is complete, comments will only be taken about items that are on the agenda.
-
What if I have questions for the board and I want to hear their answers?
School board meetings follow an agenda. The public comment period is an opportunity for the board to listen to citizen concerns, but not to debate issues or enter into a question-and-answer session between the public and school board members. As with other government bodies, the public does not participate in decision-making. Instead, it provides input to the elected school board members, who take the input into consideration in making their decisions. You can email board members.
