California Colleges Guidance Initiative (CCGI)

Santa Rosa City Schools is partnered with CaliforniaColleges.edu to provide our students with the tools they need to develop their college and career plans. 

CaliforniaColleges.edu is a FREE platform where students can explore careers, majors, and colleges, plan post-secondary pathways, and learn how to pay for college/training after high school.

Students can use CaliforniaColleges.edu to:

  • Match interests to career goals and make plans to achieve them 
  • Research colleges & view progress toward CSU/UC eligibility 
  • Learn about and submit financial aid applications 
  • Launch and monitor their community college, CSU, & UC applications

Start using the tools on your own, like career and college search! You will also be using Californiacolleges.edu in class and with your counselors during middle and high school.

Parents/Guardians:

When you register for an account, you can connect to your student’s CaliforniaColleges.edu account, you will be able to:

  • See transcript and class information in the Academic Planner section 
  • Learn how the classes your student completed are preparing them for UC, CSU, and California Community Colleges
  • Review and support your student in creating their post-secondary plan based on their My Goals entries.

SUGGESTED ACTIVITIES BY GRADE LEVEL

In collaboration with our school counselors, we’ve created lessons that integrate CaliforniaColleges.edu tools and introduce students to information they need to be successful in middle and high school and beyond! 

Below are suggested CaliforniaColleges.edu activities and topics to review by grade level.

Grade 6

  • Explore the California Colleges platform and resources. 

Grade 7

  • My Goals: Learn about Smart Goals and Create an Academic Goal

Grade 8

  • Academic Planner: Learn about A-G college eligibility requirements 
  • What do I like: Complete the Interest Profiler Assessment to identify personal interests and explore matching career options. 

Grade 9

  • Academic Planner: Review A-G eligibility college requirements. 
  • Past and Future: Review your high school plan.

Grade 10

  • My Experiences: Learn about experiences and start adding them here for college applications, resumes, and job applications
  • Career Assessment: Take the Work Values Assessment and explore and research careers that align with your values. 
  • Add 1-3 potential careers to your Career List

Grade 11

  • Who are You: Take the Personality Assessment to identify careers that align with skills and interests.
  • Explore California Community Colleges and Associate Degrees for Transfer, 4-year colleges, and the steps to successfully submit a college application. 
  • Learn about the Financial Aid 
  • Add 1-3 potential postsecondary opportunities to your College List.

Grade 12

  • Launch and submit college applications
  • Launch and submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or California Dream Act Application (CADAA)
