Immigrant Family Support

Santa Rosa City Schools is a Safe Haven District, committed to making sure every student and family feels safe, welcomed, and respected regardless of citizenship or immigration status. Please know that our schools are inclusive spaces where all students can learn, thrive, and feel supported. We do not ask about or collect information on the immigration status of students or their families. Under California law (AB 699), schools are protected areas. This means students and families have constitutional rights, including protection from unreasonable searches (4th Amendment) and the right to remain silent (5th Amendment). No matter your immigration status, you have rights. Below are resources to help you understand and exercise those rights.

Legal Protections & Right

  • California’s Values Act (SB 54) limits cooperation with immigration enforcement.
  • Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) protects student records
  • SRCS staff are trained on Safe Haven protocols as outlined in the district’s Safe Haven Manual.
