Immigrant Family Support
"Santa Rosa is a community enriched by its diversity, with individuals and families from a wide range of cultural and immigration backgrounds. We recognize the heightened concerns surrounding immigration enforcement activity nationwide, and we deeply understand the importance of providing clear, consistent, and accurate information about rights and protections. Santa Rosa City Schools is proud to reaffirm its role as a Safe Haven District, standing steadfast in our commitment to support and protect all students and families." - SRCS Superintendent, Dr. Daisy Morales
With changes in leadership at the national level and the transition to a new presidential administration, we understand that some students and families may feel uncertain, anxious, or even afraid. Please know that Santa Rosa City Schools stands with you and remains unwavering in our heartfelt commitment to ensuring that every child—regardless of their immigration status—feels safe, supported, and welcomed in our schools.
We are here for you and your family. Our priority is to provide a nurturing environment where every student can thrive academically, emotionally, and socially, knowing they are valued and protected. We are committed to the success of all students, ensuring that every school is a safe, welcoming space for students and their families, regardless of citizenship or immigration status. The district will not solicit or collect information about the citizenship or immigration status of students or their families, nor will it assist with immigration enforcement at school sites, except as required by state or federal law.
Here’s what you should know:
We have strong policies in place to protect our students and families, which you can review here:
- Board Policy 5145.13 - spells out how we respond to immigration enforcement. In December, the Board of Trustees passed a resolution re-confirming that Santa Rosa City Schools is a Safe Haven for all students. This policy is in the process of being updated to incorporate the resolution, as the board voted that the resolution become part of board policy.
- To provide a clear picture of what this means for all of us, we have created a Safe Haven Manual that includes the full resolution as well as what our protocols will be around this topic as well as resources for parents. Please take a moment to read through it and become familiar with the content.
- On Tuesday, January 21, we will provide site administrators with step by step procedures (not shared for security reasons) as to what they should do if a situation arises. They will then train their front office staff and provide guidance to all staff during staff meetings.
The ACLU’s Immigration Rights Resource is a helpful tool to learn more about your rights and share with others: ACLU: Know Your Rights
Together, we can ensure that every student and family feels supported, valued, and safe in our community. Santa Rosa City Schools is committed to standing with you and providing the resources, guidance, and protections needed to foster a sense of security and belonging for all.
