Measures C & G

Aging Classrooms, Labs and School Facilities

Many of SRCS’s schools were built more than 50 years ago and require repairs and upgrades. Roofs leak, heating and cooling systems are outdated and inefficient, and deteriorating water, sewer and gas lines need to be replaced. Some portable classrooms are over 30 years old and are falling apart.

Supporting Science, Technology, Engineering and Math Education

Aging schools were built for a different era of education. Outdated classrooms, labs, job training facilities and learning technology need updates to meet rising academic standards and support advanced classes in science, math, engineering and technology.

Local Funding to Upgrade Local Schools

To ensure all local schools have safe and modern classrooms, labs and school facilities, the SRCS Board of Education has placed Measures C & G, a pair of school improvement bond measures, on the November 8, 2022 ballot. Measure G will provide funding for our local elementary schools and Measure C will provide funding for our local middle and high schools. Voters in the Santa Rosa Elementary School District would vote on both Measures C & G, voters only in the High School District would vote on Measure C. The estimated cost of each measure for property owners would be limited to no more than 3¢ per $100 of assessed (not market) value annually while bonds are outstanding.

If approved by local voters, Measures C & G would:

• Update classrooms, science labs, learning technology and job training facilities
• Provide updated equipment for classrooms, science and computer labs and libraries
• Replace deteriorating portable classrooms
• Repair leaky roofs and replace inefficient heating and cooling systems, electrical systems and plumbing
• Improve campus security, fire and earthquake safety
   

Fiscal Accountability and Local Control Required

Measures C & G would require a clear system of accountability, including:

• A detailed project list indicating the projects that may be funded by the measures
• A Citizens' Oversight Committee and independent audits to ensure funds are spent properly
• All funds must be locally controlled to improve local schools
• No funds can be taken away by the State or used for other purposes
• Public disclosure of all spending is required
• Funds would be used to compete for state matching funds that would otherwise go to other school districts
