GOAL OF INDEPENDENT STUDY
The goal of the Independent Study Program (ISP) is to offer a means of individualizing an educational plan for pupils whose needs may best be met through study outside the regular classroom setting. 

ELIGIBILITY
All pupils grades 7–12, who are motivated to achieve educationally as well as, or better, than they would in a regular classroom, may ask their counselor about Independent Study. Placement in the Independent Study Program is voluntary.


PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
The Independent Study Program offers general education classes to fulfill high school education requirements.  Academic students may pursue enrichment classes at the Santa Rosa Junior College.  Students also may prepare for high school equivalency exams (CHSPE/GED).


A scheduled weekly one-hour meeting with the teacher is mandatory.  Students are assigned and required to complete 30 scheduled periods of work each week which is turned in the following week.  Students who cannot complete 30 scheduled periods of work each week, or violate the enrollment contract, will be dropped from the program and referred back to their comprehensive school.


APPLICATION PROCESS
In order to apply to the Santa Rosa City Schools Independent Study Program, the student must be enrolled in a Santa Rosa City middle school or high school.  The ISP application is available from the student's school counselor.  The counselor will meet with the student and parent/guardian to complete the application.  Once the application is completed, the counselor will forward it to the ISP Registrar.


If the application is approved, and there is an opening available, parent/guardian will be contacted as soon as possible by the ISP Registrar to set up an enrollment appointment. Until that time, the student should continue to attend their comprehensive school.


The student must be accompanied to the enrollment registration appointment by a parent/guardian.  At that time, the ISP contract will be explained, and a course of study will be mapped out for the student.


If a student is denied acceptance, a letter to that effect is sent to the student's counselor.  The student's counselor will inform the parent/guardian of the decision.
