Mentor Information
Mentor FAQs
What are my responsibilities as an Induction Mentor?
As a Mentor, you are expected to provide individualized coaching and formative assessment to the beginning teacher, adhering to the standards set by the California-approved Induction program. For detailed responsibilities, please refer to the Mentor Roles and Responsibilities sheet.
What is the time commitment required?
You are required to meet with your beginning teacher for a minimum of one hour each week and attend the professional learning sessions assigned by NCSOE. These weekly meetings should be considered “sacred” time, so it's important to establish and maintain a consistent schedule.
Is there a commitment for the entire program duration?
Yes, Induction is a two-year program. Ideally, the beginning teacher will continue with the same Mentor throughout the second year unless circumstances necessitate a change.
Are there different requirements for Mentors of Interns?
Yes, Interns are teachers who do not yet hold a preliminary credential and are currently enrolled in a university program to obtain it. They have specific requirements. For more information, please contact Lindsey Wyckoff or Kelly Daly at NCSOE.
Will I be compensated for my work as a Mentor?
Yes, Santa Rosa City Schools provides a $1,500 stipend, which is divided into two payments. You will receive your stipend form via your District email through Informed K-12. Please sign and submit the form electronically. Forms are typically sent out in November/December for Fall and April/May for Spring. Stipends are paid on the January and June Supplement Payroll.
Can I earn college units for my role as a Mentor?
You may be able to purchase university units for the coursework you complete as a Mentor. You can choose between receiving the Mentor stipend or using purchased units for placement on the SRCS Salary Schedule. Click here to learn more.
