How many days can a student go on short-term ISP?

  • Short-Term ISP can be used for students who are missing from one day to up to 15 cumulative school days in a school year.

 

Can short-term ISP be used multiple times for one student?

  • Yes, as long as the cumulative number of days a student is absent is 15 or fewer.

 

Can short-term ISP be used as a tool for behavior management?

  • No.  Both short and long-term ISP are voluntary and should never be used to remove a student from the classroom environment because of their behavior.

 

Under what circumstances can students apply for short-term ISP?  Is it used for vacation?

  • The following are reasons for employing short-term ISP: extended vacation and need to keep up with school work, students with health needs (i.e. immune deficiency or severe mental health issues), students participating in volunteer community service, individualized study in particular areas of interest.  Approval for short-term ISP is at the discretion of the school site administration.

 

Who qualifies for short-term ISP?

  • Students who have a need outlined in the previous section and a student who demonstrates the motivation, commitment, organizational skills, and academic skills necessary to work independently.

 

How do students apply for short-term ISP?

  • Short-term ISP forms can be found on this page, or at the school site.  ALL FORMS MUST BE COMPLETED, WITH SIGNATURES, AND TURNED IN TO THE SITE AT LEAST ONE WEEK PRIOR TO THE BEGINNING OF THE ABSENCE.

 

When is the work due?

  • All school work must be turned in on the day the student returns from the absence to verify and excuse short-term ISP attendance.

 

Do teachers have to require the use of books or internet use?

  • It is up to the discretion of the teacher what the student assignments will be.

 

A student is going on vacation in a place without internet access.  Can the family request that all work be done via paper/pencil?

  • No, it is up to the discretion of the teacher what the student assignments will be and what format they will be done in.
