About Technology at SRCS

Santa Rosa City Schools offers a robust technology environment aimed at enhancing student learning and teaching, preparing students as Life-Ready Learners, and ensuring district business continuity in an equitable and financially sustainable manner.

The community of students and staff we serve

The Technology Services Department supports around 14,000 students grades TK-12 and around 1600 staff, certificated and classified, spread over most of Santa Rosa City in 24 campuses connected via 23 miles of dark fiber to a modern wired and wireless network with two load-balanced 10Gbps internet connections.

Learning Management Tools and Student Data Privacy

The Technology Services Department enables student achievement through the use of almost 200 online learning resources (search here) tightly integrated into the Google Workspaces for Education ecosystem. The Classlink Identity & Access Management for Education system manages the licensing and access control of these resources. SRCS ensures student data privacy for all these platforms by strictly adhering to the Student Data Privacy Consortium requirements and enforcing Student Data Privacy Agreements signed with all the different educational partners.

Student Technology

All students are provided with Chromebooks (Student Devices) to access online resources, and their access is filtered for instructional purposes both on and off-campus on these devices. Additionally, different schools have their own pools of Chromebooks for different specialized purposes, bringing the total number of Chromebooks supported district-wide to almost 19,000. The Chromebooks are the best hardware platform to integrate with the Google Workspace for Education learning system but iPads and a limited number of desktops (both MacOS and Windows) are also supported at different schools for different programs with very specific requirements.

Classroom Technology

Every classroom in the district is equipped with modern instructional technology, such as interactive whiteboards, wireless projection and voice amplification systems. All teachers are provided with a laptop and an iPad capable of wireless projection. All other certificated staff receive an SRCS laptop. Classified personnel receive the equipment necessary to perform their duties.

Safety and Business Continuity

The Technology Services Department also manages various other systems necessary for school safety and operations (phone, public and emergency announcements, security cameras) and collaborates with other departments to ensure business continuity.

Collaboration with the Information and Evaluation Department

The Technology Services Department works closely with the Information and Evaluation Department  which maintains the SRCS Student Information System (Aeries) and the mass parent communication system (Parent Square). SRCS Student Information System (Aeries) integrates with a multitude of SRCS databases including Google Workspaces for Education which is supported by Technology Services.

The two departments share some responsibilities and the help desk ticketing system TechHub.

Technology Services Team

The Technology Services Department is a team of 12, including the director and department secretary.  It organizes its operations in two sub-teams: one based at the district office, which manages the different district technology systems (2 team members), and a roaming team of technology assistants (8 team members), who directly serve the end user tech support needs at sites and manages site technology inventories.
Given the complexity of the Student Devices logistics, one of the technology assistants is in a lead role at the district office.
All tech support calls are served via the help desk ticketing system TechHub.
