Kevin Bower

Kevin Bower began his work at Elsie Allen High School as Athletic Trainer in the Fall of 2018, after graduating with a B.S. in Athletic Training from Fresno State University and passing the Board of Certification exam. He was raised and has lived in Sonoma county for most of his life and was a student in the Sports Medicine program at the Santa Rosa Junior College. As part of his athletic training internships he has worked with a wide range of collegiate athletics at the division I, II, and III levels. He has been certified as an ImPACT trained athletic trainer and is part of the North Coast Concussion Management group. In his spare time he enjoys running, cycling, swimming, and tinkering with electronics and cars.

Melissa Gueretta

Montgomery High
Certified Athletic Trainer

Montgomery High School is lucky to have Melissa Gueretta as our full time certified athletic trainer since 2014. Melissa can be seen standing on the sidelines of home games and rotating around practices. In addition, she keeps a watchful eye and provides immediate help for all of our athletes. Melissa provides services that include injury and illness prevention, wellness promotion, examination and clinical diagnosis, and rehabilitation of injuries. Melissa is also in charge of the pre-season ImPACT concussion testing program. When she is not out at games or practices, you can find her in her office located on the backside of the South Gym. Melissa was born and raised in Sonoma County. She has her master’s degree in sports psychology from CSU, Fresno and her bachelor’s degree in athletic training from CSU, Sacramento. When Melissa is not working, she is traveling the world, adding new stamps to her passport.

Chelsea Matthew

Piner High

Chelsea Matthew has been a certified athletic trainer since 2010 and started at Piner High School in 2018. She has extensive experience in the high school setting: she spent one year working with dancers at a performing arts high school in Pennsylvania and then spent seven years as the athletic trainer for Union Grove High School, a small farming town in southeastern Wisconsin. A native of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Chelsea received her bachelor’s degree in athletic training from Northern Michigan University and her master’s degree in athletic training from East Stroudsburg University in Pennsylvania. She also has her Olympic Weightlifting coaching certificate and is a Performance Enhancement Specialist through the National Academy of Sports Medicine. In her spare time, Chelsea likes to be in nature hiking and camping, reading, cooking, and spending time exploring Northern California with her fiancé, Topher.

Willem Winkelman

Maria Carrillo High

Willem Winkelman is in his second year as Head Athletic Trainer at Maria Carrillo High School. He was born and raised in Sonoma County and graduated from Santa Rosa Junior College with a degree in Pre-Athletic Training and an emergency medical technician certificate. He then transferred to Fresno State and graduated with a degree in Athletic Training. Recently he graduated from Cal State Fullerton with a master’s degree in Kinesiology. Willem has been a certified athletic trainer for 5 years and an EMT for 8 years. Outside of MCHS, he volunteers with the Two Rock Volunteer Fire Department and enjoys playing golf on the weekends.

Mercedes Zipperle

Santa Rosa High

Mercedes Zipperle is a board certified athletic trainer who graduated from CSU Fresno with a Bachelor’s of Science in Athletic Training and a minor in Animal Science. As part of her education she worked with athletics at Fresno State and several high schools in the Valley. You can find her at Santa Rosa High, in the Athletic Training Room located in South Gym next to the weight room. In her free time she enjoys being outside, whether it is hiking, running, or riding her horse, Star.
