Meet Our Superintendent
Diann Kitamura has served as superintendent of the Santa Rosa City Schools (SRCS) since February 2016. She has worked in public education for more than 30 years, as an associate and assistant superintendent in SRCS, assistant superintendent and director in the Grant High School District in Sacramento County, and as a coordinator in the Hayward Unified School District. Superintendent Kitamura began her career as an agriculture teacher and FFA advisor, became a school counselor, and then became a vice principal and a principal. She earned her bachelor's degree in plant science from California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo and a master's degree in counseling from California State University, Sacramento.
Superintendent Kitamura was named Sonoma County Assistant Superintendent of the Year for 2015 and named the KRCB (NPR) American Graduate Champion 2015. She received the California School Boards Association (CSBA) Golden Bell Award in 2014, was selected to the CSBA Superintendents Advisory Council (3-year term), and was awarded a 2016 Brandman University Doctoral Fellowship.
The superintendent is committed to serving students and their families by ensuring that quality educational opportunities are provided for all students. She believes sense-making learning experiences and support systems that engage and inspire students will assist them to dream big, persevere and thrive. She is the proud mother of Kenna and Kameron, and spouse of David, a middle school science teacher.
